The neighbor said something about the HOA before the owner had a number to call, and in Michigan that is usually how these jobs start. Lake places and driveways from Bay City to Escanaba end up holding a fiberglass hull past the fall storage deadline and into spring de-winterizing season. The scrap yard will not touch it, and trash pickup will not either.
That is fiberglass boat disposal, start to finish, run the same way whether the hull has sat since October or since last spring. We tow it out whole, cut it down at our yard, and send the material on to a processor. Missing paperwork does not stop the job, we work through that along the way.

Local read — Michigan
In Michigan, what moves the number most is how the hull got stuck, driveway pickups near Battle Creek or Coldwater tend to be simpler than a boat still down at a lake lot. Hauls to the processing yard usually run short here, so distance rarely swings the range above. Season matters too, spring de-winterizing and the fall storage deadline are our busiest stretches. Send photos, hull length, and your ZIP.

Fiberglass disposal in Michigan: FAQ
How much does it cost to get rid of an old fiberglass boat in Michigan?
Hull size, condition, and how far the boat sits from our yard decide most of the Michigan number, and jobs run inside the range in the pricing section above. A driveway pickup near Burton usually lands on the lower end, a lake-lot job with tight access can push higher. Send photos and we will give you a firm number.
Will a junkyard or scrap yard take a fiberglass boat?
Most scrap yards pass, because fiberglass has almost no metal in it and metal is what pays their scale. A hull with an aluminum trailer or an old outboard might get a partial yes, but the fiberglass itself gets turned away at the gate. We take the whole package, hull, trailer, and hardware, in one pickup.
Can fiberglass boats be recycled?
Some of it, and it is neither easy nor cheap. Hulls typically get ground down or routed to specialized facilities built for the material, while metal fittings, hardware, and engines recycle cleanly. We separate what can be recycled from what cannot and dispose of the rest properly, not just hauled to a landfill.
Can I cut up a fiberglass boat myself?
Calling it a weekend project would be generous for cutting a Michigan hull yourself. Cutting fiberglass throws fine dust that you need real respirators and eye protection to handle, blades wear out fast on the resin, and most Michigan landfills will still refuse the pieces once you are done. We cut hulls at our own yard instead of leaving that mess in your driveway.
Is an old fiberglass boat worth anything?
Once the hull itself is done, selling it as a boat almost never happens in Michigan. What sometimes carries value is everything attached to it, a running outboard, a decent trailer, or hardware in good shape. When that is the case we factor it into the quote, and it can offset part of the job. A bare hull is just weight.
Do I need a title to dispose of a boat in Michigan?
Michigan's title requirements are covered in the legal section on our Michigan boat removal page rather than here. What matters for this job is that missing paperwork does not stop the pickup, we have worked through plenty of driveway hulls with no title in hand and gotten them gone anyway.
Is fiberglass boat disposal ever free?
Sometimes, but not often for a dead hull. Boats with real remaining value can qualify for donation programs, a different path than what we do. A bare fiberglass hull with a shot motor usually does not meet that bar. If the trailer or outboard covers the trip, we will tell you before booking, not after.
