The landfill already said no, and that is usually the call that ends up with us. Montana is landlocked in the way that matters here, hulls sit in barns, driveways, and storage lots from Kalispell to Billings rather than at a boat ramp, and once the dump turns a hull away there is nowhere else in town to take it.
That is fiberglass boat disposal, start to finish, even out here where the processor is a long drive away. We tow the hull out whole, cut it down at our own yard, and send the material on from there. Missing paperwork does not stop the job, plenty of Montana hulls arrive without one and still get hauled.

In Montana, distance is the main thing that moves the number, since hauls to a processor are long no matter where in the state a hull is sitting. A barn or storage-lot pickup near Bozeman or Missoula is usually straightforward once we are on site, it is the miles in between that add up. Spring de-winterizing and the fall storage deadline are our two busy stretches here. Send photos, hull length, and your ZIP for a firm number.

Fiberglass disposal in Montana: FAQ
How much does it cost to get rid of an old fiberglass boat in Montana?
Montana pricing is driven mostly by distance, since our processor is a long haul from most towns in the state. A barn or storage-lot hull near Great Falls is usually easy to load, so access rarely adds much. The final number lands inside the range in the pricing section above. Send photos for a firm quote.
Will a junkyard or scrap yard take a fiberglass boat?
Scrap yards buy by the pound of metal, and a fiberglass hull does not weigh much in the metal that pays. A steel trailer might get a yes on its own, but the hull almost always gets turned away, which is why Montana dumps say no too. We take the whole thing, hull, trailer, and hardware, in one trip.
Can fiberglass boats be recycled?
Partly, and it takes real equipment. Hulls get ground down or hauled to one of a small number of facilities built to process fiberglass, while metal hardware and engine parts go into normal scrap recycling. We route each piece toward recycling where we can and dispose of the rest properly, since a landfill will not take it whole.
Can I cut up a fiberglass boat myself?
Technically yes, though it is a rough job without a shop set up for it. Cutting fiberglass throws dust you should not breathe without real protection, blades burn out fast on the resin, and most Montana landfills will not take the pieces even after the work is done. We cut hulls at our own yard, which skips that problem.
Is an old fiberglass boat worth anything?
Almost never as a boat once it has sat in a barn or storage lot for years. What can still carry value is a running engine, a decent trailer, or hardware that is intact, and we factor that into the quote when it applies. A hull with nothing salvageable left is mostly dead weight.
Do I need a title to dispose of a boat in Montana?
Montana's title requirements are covered in the legal section on our Montana boat removal page rather than here. For this job, missing paperwork does not stop the pickup. We have hauled hulls out of barns and storage lots with no title in sight plenty of times, and the distance does not change that.
Is fiberglass boat disposal ever free?
Occasionally, if a boat still has enough going for it that a donation program would want it, but a hull the landfill already refused rarely meets that bar. What we can do instead is credit a working trailer or engine against the cost of the haul, and we will say so before we book the job.
