Dale's take on Utah

By the time I get the call, the cover has usually rotted through from sitting exposed for years, and what's underneath is worse than the owner remembered. Out in Logan it's a barn corner, over in Layton it's the spot behind the garage, and the tarp gave up long before the boat did. Utah is inland, so almost everything I haul comes off a driveway or a storage lot.

That's fiberglass boat disposal, start to finish: we tow the hull out whole, cut it down at the yard, and route what's left to a processor. Missing paperwork, a lost title or a plate that expired years ago, does not stop the job.

Local read — Utah

In Utah, distance is what moves the number most. Since almost everything I haul is off a driveway, a barn, or a storage lot rather than the water, the trip to the yard tends to run long. Spring de-winterizing and fall storage deadlines both bring a wave of calls. Hull size here runs smaller on average, mostly recreational boats. Send photos, the hull length, and your ZIP, and I will work up a firm number off the range above.

Cuddy cabins & cruisers24–30 ft glass hulls with sunken interiors or dead motors.

Missing paperwork or a stalled restoration doesn't hold up the pickup.

How the pickup works

  1. 1

    Send photos + your ZIP

Hull length, condition (transom, floor, stringers), access notes. Photos beat descriptions.

  2. 2

    Firm quote back

One number for pickup, transport, cutting, and disposal. No hourly, no fuel surcharges after.

  3. 3

    Schedule the tow

We coordinate the pickup window. The crew calls when they're an hour out.

  4. 4

Haul to our yard, cut it down

Hull comes off in one piece when it can, then it's cut into sections at our yard. No cutting torches in your driveway.

  5. 5

Recycle what routes, dispose of the rest

Metal fittings and hardware recycled. Fiberglass goes to a processor equipped for it.

Fiberglass disposal in Utah: FAQ

How much does it cost to get rid of an old fiberglass boat in Utah?
In Utah, distance to the yard is usually the biggest driver of the number, since most pickups come off a driveway, barn, or storage lot rather than the water. The range in the pricing section above covers what we typically see. Hull size plays a role too, so send photos for an exact figure.
Will a junkyard or scrap yard take a fiberglass boat?
No, and it is not personal, scrap yards are set up to buy metal by weight and a fiberglass hull barely registers on that scale. They might take an aluminum trailer off your hands, the hull gets left behind. We take the complete setup in one visit instead of splitting it up.
Can fiberglass boats be recycled?
Technically yes, practically it is limited. Fiberglass hulls need specialized grinding facilities rather than a standard scrap line, and that process is not cheap, which is why so few yards bother. Metal hardware, the motor, and trailer components are what actually recycle cleanly. We push what we can toward a processor and dispose of the rest the right way.
Can I cut up a fiberglass boat myself?
Nothing stops you legally, but the dust from cutting fiberglass is genuinely bad to breathe without real protective gear, the blades wear out fast, and most storage lots in places like Logan or Layton are not set up for that kind of mess. We cut hulls at our own yard for exactly that reason.
Is an old fiberglass boat worth anything?
Almost never once it is sitting unused in a barn or storage lot. The motor, if it still runs, and the trailer usually hold more value than the hull ever will. Hardware and electronics sometimes add a little on top of that. The fiberglass shell itself is rarely worth anything as a standalone item.
Do I need a title to dispose of a boat in Utah?
Whether Utah requires one depends on the situation, and that gets covered in the legal section on our Utah boat removal page. What matters for the pickup is simpler: missing paperwork does not stop the job. We work with what you have and go from there.
Is fiberglass boat disposal ever free?
It can be, if the motor, trailer, or hardware carries enough value to offset the trip, and we will tell you that before you commit to anything. A bare hull with nothing else salvageable typically does not qualify, since cutting and processing still costs us money regardless. We are upfront about which category your boat falls into.
