A 14 ft skiff had outlived the childhood it was bought for by about twenty years, sitting flat on the ground behind a swing set that hadn't held a kid in almost as long. It never had a trailer, just got dragged up from the water once a season and eventually stopped getting dragged anywhere at all. Moss had grown thick enough on the hull bottom that it looked more like a garden bed than a boat from a distance. The backyard access was the whole challenge: a narrow gate between the house and a fence, wide enough for a person but not for rolling a hull through, so we carried it out by hand in two trips rather than trying to force it through in one piece.
