Raleigh, NC: 26 ft MacGregor Gone in One Morning

This 26 ft MacGregor 26 had been sitting on its trailer long enough for the cabin to go sour with mildew, and somewhere along the way the rudder had gone missing entirely. Whoever owned it last must have given up on sailing it and just left it parked, because that's usually how a boat ends up on a Durham County lot with no rudder and a cabin nobody wants to open. The trailer was still serviceable, which saved us some grief, but the mast was still stepped and had to come down before we could move anything on the road toward Chapel Hill. With the rudder gone the boat sat unevenly on the bunks, so we shifted the load and cinched it before towing. No title in the drawer, handled per the North Carolina page rules. Most of a morning, start to hookup. Back at our yard the keel came out, the hull got cut down, and what was left went off to the processor.
