It sat behind a chain-link fence for three summers before anyone called us. The Boston Whaler had been a good little fishing boat once, the kind you keep meaning to patch up between seasons, until the gelcoat chalked out completely under the coastal sun and the outboard locked up from sitting unused. The owner kept paying to register it anyway out of habit more than anything. What changed his mind was a new dog that kept getting tangled in the overgrown grass around the hull every time it went out back. He wanted the whole corner of the yard cleared. The gate to that side of the property was narrower than our trailer, so we backed a smaller utility rig through, winched the Whaler out by hand, and reloaded it onto the main truck once we cleared the fence line.
