Sunken Sailboat Recovery in Bayonet Point

A tarp tied over the lashed mast of the 22 ft Catalina 22 had been there for years, with the mast itself down on the deck. Rainwater collected under the tarp, and one night the stern gave up. By the time the dock owner called, the deck was awash and the bow only slightly up.
The lashed mast was the obstacle. It stuck out past both ends, so the hull could not simply be hauled up a ramp. Our crew cut the lashings, slid the mast off to the side, and then ran pumps with a diver holding the hose in the cockpit. The hull came up level and floated on its own once the water was out.
On site we spent about three hours. The deck was soft and the keel bolts were gone, so there was no point in a repair. The tow went toward Hudson and on to our yard, where she was dismantled and recycled. Sunken boat removal done, and the salvage of the mast and winches paid for part of the fuel.
