Miami, FL: 22 ft Catalina 22 Off the Bottom in One Morning

Years of sitting with the mast down and lashed to the deck had taken a toll on this 22 ft Catalina 22 sailboat, and a slip-side rainstorm finished it. When the marina called, the deck was awash, with the bow slightly up and the lashed mast acting like a weight along the cabin top.
That mast was the obstacle. Lifting a boat with a ten-foot pole strapped across it means the load shifts the moment the bags fill. We cut the lashings, set the mast on the dock, then ran lift bags under the hull at the gunwales and raised it evenly. A marina office rep watched the whole job and signed off on the slip afterward.
Sunken boat removal in a slip is tidy work when the neighbors are intact boats, and this took about three hours. We towed it out under power and loaded it at a ramp. The hull was sound, so it went to a repair yard, and the standing rigging was saved as salvage.

Crews cover Miami-Dade County: Brownsville, Coral Terrace, Country Club, and Country Walk. When a boat goes under in Miami or anywhere nearby, we schedule the recovery the same week once we have photos and a rough depth. Time is not on the side of a boat that has gone under, with fuel, oil, and storms all adding to the cleanup, so a short call and a few photos are the quickest route to a spot on the crew calendar.
