Sunken Cuddy Cabin Recovery in Miami Lakes

The outdrive had been removed from this 21 ft Thompson 21 cuddy cabin and never reinstalled, which left an open hole in the transom that a plug was supposed to cover. The plug lasted a season. When we arrived at the mooring, the gunwales were level with the water and the boat was waiting to go lower.
The obstacle was that open hole. Anything we lifted would just let the water out through the same gap, so a pump alone would never win. We closed the opening from outside with a hardwood plate and sealant, then set lift bags at the gunwales and floated the hull. Then the pump had something to work against.
The sunken boat recovery wrapped in about three hours. We towed it to the ramp near Homestead and loaded it there. Without the drive the cost to fix it ran past the boat's worth, so it went to our yard for recycling, though the hardware was worth a salvage.

Crews cover Miami-Dade County: Tamiami, Coral Terrace, South Miami Heights, Palmetto Bay, Homestead, and Hialeah Gardens. When a boat goes under in Miami Lakes or anywhere nearby, we schedule the recovery the same week once we have photos and a rough depth. The longer a boat stays under, the worse it usually gets, because fuel, oil, and rough weather only add to it, so a short call with a few photos is the quickest way onto the calendar.
