Hauling a sailboat out of a Minot storage lot

A 27 ft Catalina 27 sailboat had been sitting on concrete stands in Ward County for years, its standing rigging seized solid and the sails rotted inside their bags. The owner had moved on, but the boat hadn't. It was the kind of project that never happened, the kind that just gets older. The trailer was long gone. The mast was down, which saved us some height trouble, but the keel needed to come out at our facility before we could move the hull. We brought a heavy-duty lifting frame and a flatbed rated for the weight, got the boat secured fore and aft, and had it loaded and headed south toward our yard near Tatman in under three hours. The fiberglass hull was sound enough for transport, even if nothing else about the boat was. Once we had it back, the keel came out first, then the hull got cut down at our processor. No title in the drawer, handled per the North Dakota rules. One less boat in a North Dakota yard. One less problem for the owner. North Dakota winters mean a lot of boats get pulled out of storage or tucked away before the freeze, and that's when we see the calls come in.
