Raising a 25 ft O'Day 25 in Parkland, FL

On any sailboat, keel bolts weeping rust down the hull are a bad sign, and the 25 ft O'Day 25 had been leaking at the keel for a long time. The owner kept her at a lake dock, and one wet week was all it took for her to fill and sit with the deck awash and the bow slightly up.
The obstacle was the keel itself. With the bolts gone soft, we could not trust it to hang from a hull that had just been lifted. So the crew supported her from below with a sling, set the lift bags under the bilge, and let the water out slowly so the load shifted a little at a time.
It took about four hours to float her. We towed her to the launch and trucked her toward Davie to our yard. The keel bolts and backing plates were too far gone to repair economically, so she was dismantled and recycled. The lead went out as salvage, ending the sunken boat removal.

Crews cover Broward County: Davie, Pembroke Pines, Lauderhill, Sunrise, Tamarac, and Fort Lauderdale. When a boat goes under in Parkland or any of those towns, we plan the recovery the same week, sort out the depth and access by photo, and get a crew on site as soon as the water and the schedule allow.
