Raising a 27 ft Catalina 27 in Alafaya, FL

On its mooring so long that the standing rigging seized solid, the 27 ft Catalina 27 had sails rotted in the bag. A week of rain filled the cockpit, and she settled by the stern with the bow pointing up. The owner sent three photos and one question: can it be saved?
The rigging was the obstacle. With the mast stuck in place, the hull was tall and top-heavy, and a careless lift would have rolled her. Our diver strapped the keel area and ran lift bags along the gunwales, then we brought her up in small steps, checking the heel after each one. The rotted sails came off in wet pieces and went into the bin.
We were done in about three hours. From the ramp it was a trailer tow toward Orlando to a repair yard that wanted the hull. That was a clean sunken boat recovery with a little salvage value left in the keel and the hardware.
