Raising a 25 ft O'Day 25 in North Port, FL

Sailboats with weeping keel bolts rarely fail quickly, and this 25 ft O'Day 25 was no exception. It spent a summer taking on a little water each rain until it finally sat at a public ramp with its gunwales level with the water. Rust streaks ran down the hull below the keel.
The obstacle was the timing. The ramp is the access point for fishermen at dawn, and we had to float the boat before they arrived. We started in the dark, set lift bags at the gunwales, and kept a pump going the whole way up. The keel joint kept weeping, so the pump never stopped.
We finished in about three hours and towed the boat to a trailer at the top of the ramp, then on to Englewood. The hull was solid, and the keel joint repairable, so it went to a repair yard. Salvage was the right call, and the sunken boat recovery was a good result for a boat that looked finished.

Crews cover Sarasota County: Bee Ridge, Englewood, Fruitville, and Palmer Ranch. When a boat goes under in North Port or anywhere nearby, we schedule the recovery the same week once we have photos and a rough depth. Waiting almost never helps a boat on the bottom, since fuel and oil spread and weather piles on, so we ask for a call and a few photos to put a crew on the calendar.
