Kentucky Boat Removal and Disposal — flatbed truck hauling a junk boat away

Kentucky Boat Removal and Disposal

Twenty years of hauling junk boats out of driveways, marinas, and backyards. Firm quote before the truck rolls.

Licensed & Insured Kentucky Statewide Fast Response

A dead motor is where most of my Kentucky calls start. Repairing it costs more than the boat could sell for, so it stays put. Some boats came with a house or an estate nobody in the family wanted. Others got parked long enough that a code enforcement notice showed up. Selling a boat that does not run is harder than it sounds, and owners give up before calling me.

My crew handles boat removal from a yard, a driveway, or a storage lot, transport and disposal covered in one visit. Junk boat removal does not need a running motor or a floating hull. I get rid of a boat whether it runs or not. No title on hand is common. It will not stop the pickup. Covered further down.

How much does boat removal cost?

Starting from
$250

Junk boat on a trailer that rolls, with room for the truck to reach it. From there, four things move the number.

I will tell you which ones apply to yours before we schedule anything.

Size and type

A 14-foot aluminum fishing boat is one job. A 30-foot cabin cruiser is a different one. Length, beam, and weight decide the crew and the equipment.

Where it sits

Driveway on a trailer is the cheapest boat removal there is. On blocks in the backyard takes more work. In a slip, it needs a haul-out. Sunken, it needs recovery.

Condition

Engine already out is cheaper. Fuel still aboard, a hull full of rainwater, a trailer that will not roll: each adds handling.

Distance

Miles to the processing yard are part of the quote. Boat hauling cost scales with them.

Not sure which factors apply to your boat?

Can it be free?

People ask about free junk boat removal. Sometimes the boat has enough going for it, a running outboard, decent aluminum, and we take it for nothing. Sometimes it does not, and there is a fee. We will tell you which one you have.

Our guarantee

The number is firm before the truck rolls.

Twenty years in, nobody has heard a different price at the curb.

What pricing looks like in Kentucky

Kentucky sends me mostly to driveways and lake-place yards, with a ramp haul-out mixed in from time to time. Runs to the processing yard tend to stay short in this lake state, so the boat's size, its condition, and how a trailer is sitting carry more weight than mileage. A boat that rolls straight onto the truck costs less to move than one that has sat so long it has to be winched out. Spring cleanouts are my busiest stretch, with steady calls the rest of the year. I give you one number up front and that's the number my crew collects.

Junk boat pickup, salvage, and old boat removal

One boat, a whole yard, or an emergency. Old boat removal from a driveway or an estate. Junk boat pickup for the one that never sold. Marinas and boat yards call us to clear a season of abandoned slips in one visit. Insurance adjusters call after storms. My crew has floated sunken boats, hauled sailboats out of backyards, and moved a 40-footer through a neighborhood that was not built for it. One call covers removal, transport, and disposal. If it floats, floated, or was supposed to float, we haul it.

Getting rid of a boat legally in Kentucky

State legal briefKentucky
Reviewed August 25, 2026

Kentucky titles nearly every motorized boat (motors are not titled separately). State law requires numbering and registration for practically all of them, and the process runs through your County Clerk under the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet's Division of Motor Vehicle Licensing. USCG-documented boats are exempt as long as that documentation stays active.

To transfer a boat, the seller signs the title's back before a notary, and the buyer takes it, an ID, and Form TC-96-184 to the County Clerk. With no title at all, Kentucky does not issue bonded titles. A tow operator or custodian holding an unclaimed boat can pursue title via Form TC-96-182 after a certified letter and three or more newspaper notices.

Kentucky has no derelict vessel removal program. A 2024 bill, SB 357, would have created a Derelict Vessel Removal Assistance Fund at the Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources, but it died in committee and was never enacted. Current Kentucky law makes no mention of derelict vessels at all.

If the boat is not yours. With no dedicated abandoned-boat statute, Kentucky's path runs through the titling process built for tow operators and custodians: a certified letter to the last known owner, three or more newspaper notices, and a wait before title can be pursued. The letters, notices, and wait are on you, not on whoever left the boat. If you would rather have it gone, removal is the shorter road. We handle Kentucky pickups without a title.

Skip the paperwork. We take Kentucky boats with or without titles. One call, one price.

Boat removal in Kentucky: what owners ask

How do I get rid of an old boat in Kentucky?

To get rid of an old boat in Kentucky, sell it if the engine turns over, donate it to a program that takes working hulls, haul it to a salvage yard for scrap value, or bring in a removal service. My crew handles that one.

How much does boat disposal cost in Kentucky?

What boat disposal costs in Kentucky depends on the boat's size, its condition, how far the crew hauls it from a lake property or driveway, and the trailer's condition. The pricing section above lays out the real breakdown behind those factors.

Where can I dispose of a boat in Kentucky?

Boats in Kentucky typically get disposed of through a salvage yard, a metal recycler, or a removal service, since lake-place pickups and occasional ramp haul-outs make up most of the work. A regular landfill simply will not take a boat dump of that size.

Can I get free junk boat removal in Kentucky?

Free junk boat removal in Kentucky happens when a boat still has salvage value sitting in its motor, aluminum, or parts. My boat removers waive the fee whenever that value covers the cost of hauling it away.

Are there boat salvage yards near me in Kentucky?

Yes, Kentucky has boat salvage yards scattered near its lake communities, but most boat junkyards want the boat sitting on a trailer before they will even look at it, so a hull still on a ramp usually needs a removal service first.

How do I dispose of a fiberglass boat in Kentucky?

A fiberglass boat in Kentucky cannot go into a normal landfill because the hull will not decompose. My crew cuts the unwanted boat into sections and hauls those pieces to facilities built for fiberglass, making the entire process a removal-service job.

Can you remove a boat without a title in Kentucky?

Yes, I can remove a boat without a title in Kentucky, even though the state titles nearly every motorized boat. Many abandoned boat removal calls involve paperwork that disappeared long before the owner called, and the legal section above covers what I still need.
