Sunken Sailboat Recovery in Dunedin

Beside the seawall, only the cabin roof of the 27 ft Cal 27 showed above the water, and she had no boom and a mast corroded through at the step. A loose hatch and a few weeks of rain had done it.
The canal was narrow, houses close on both sides, so a crane truck had no chance. With the mast too far gone to trust, we could not lift from the top. A diver passed straps under the keel and we hung four lift bags along the hull, then raised her a few inches at a time so the water left through the cockpit drains instead of tearing the deck. A small skiff handled the tow to the end of the canal.
That was sunken boat removal of about four hours, most of a morning with the haul-out. The hull had delaminated around the keel, so the Cal rode a trailer through Clearwater to our yard for dismantling and recycling. The only salvage was the hardware and the aluminum spar.

Crews cover Pinellas County: Clearwater, East Lake, Largo, Oldsmar. A canal job like this does not wait on a long drive. We keep a work skiff and trailer staged on the Pinellas side, so most calls here turn into a raise inside the same week, with the load heading south to the yard before afternoon traffic builds.
