Jacksonville Beach, FL: 22 ft Catalina 22 Off the Bottom in One Morning

For years the mast of the 22 ft Catalina 22 sailboat had been down and lashed to the deck. It sank beside a canal seawall, and when we arrived only the cabin roof and the end of the mast showed above the surface.
The lashed mast made the hull a long awkward shape, and it dragged against the seawall as the tide moved. The crew freed it first, floating the mast clear on a separate line, then set lift bags under the cabin and the bow. The swing keel was down and heavy, so we raised it before the lift.
This sunken boat recovery took about three hours. We pulled her to a ramp a short distance away and loaded her for the tow to our yard, passing through Atlantic Beach on the way. The cabin had been under water for a season and the keel pivot had seized. No salvage there. She was cut apart and recycled.

Crews cover Duval County: Atlantic Beach, Jacksonville, and Neptune Beach. Salt water and tide windows set our schedule, so a canal boat gets a same-week date when the tide is low enough for the skiff. The beach road keeps the haul to our yard short. Send a photo of the seawall.
