Raising a 23 ft Chris-Craft Cavalier in Margate, FL

By the time I saw the 23 ft Chris-Craft Cavalier, it had decades of barn dust and a cracked keel strip, and the keel strip was the problem. The owner launched her at a lake dock to try her out, and she took on water through the crack almost immediately. She settled until the gunwales were level with the surface.
The obstacle was the crack. A hull that old is brittle, so we did not want to lift on weak points. The crew patched the keel strip from below with a plate, spread six straps along the hull, and used four small lift bags rather than two large ones. A drain line ran the whole time. She came up in small steps over about two hours.
After a look at the hull, we saw no salvage worth the cost of repair. We handled the tow to the ramp near Lauderhill and loaded her on a flatbed. The Cavalier went to our yard for dismantling and recycling, and the sunken boat removal wrapped in about four hours.

Crews cover Broward County: Davie, Pembroke Pines, Lauderhill, Sunrise, Tamarac, Fort Lauderdale. If a boat sinks in any of them, a few pictures and an estimated depth give us what we need to start, and most calls have a crew on the water inside the week. The crew carries its own bags, lines, and haul-out gear, so the owner has nothing to set up before we arrive.
