Fernandina Beach, FL: 24 ft Maxum 2400 SCR Off the Bottom in One Morning

The soft spot at the transom of the 24 ft Maxum 2400 SCR was the first thing the owner pointed out, along with a hull chalked white from years in the sun. A week later she sat on her mooring settled by the stern, bow in the air.
A soft transom is bad news in a raise, because it is where the stern wants to pull. We could not put a strap or a bag against it. So a diver rigged slings forward of the transom, and we ran three pumps to drain her as she lifted, keeping the stern level and the cabin dry. She rode up slow and stayed in one piece.
The job ran about three hours. Sunken boat removal here depended on knowing where the hull was weak. The transom was rotted through and the stringers were soaked, so the Maxum went by trailer through Yulee to our yard for dismantling and recycling. We kept the helm gear for salvage, and the tow in from the mooring was short.

Crews cover Nassau County: Yulee, Bryceville, Callahan, Hilliard. Nassau County crews cover the northeast corner of the state and the roads inland. A boat on a mooring needs a skiff and a sharp tide plan, and we usually raise it the same week we are called. Photos from both sides and a rough depth are enough for us to start planning.
