Hauling a bass boat out of a Queens storage lot

This one was an 18 ft Ranger 350V, a fiberglass bass boat with metal-flake paint that had gone chalky and matte after years outside, and the outboard was long gone off the transom. It sat in a side yard through a couple of winters, the kind of boat someone bought for weekend fishing and then just stopped touching once the motor got pulled for parts or scrap. The trailer had two flat tires and one rim sitting almost on the ground, so nothing was rolling anywhere on its own power. We brought a set of skates and a tow strap, muscled the frame square, and winched the hull up onto the flatbed by hand since the axle wouldn't turn. No title in the drawer, handled per the New York page rules, so that part didn't slow us down either. Getting positioned took longer than the actual pull, coming off a residential stretch near Jamaica with no real staging room. Whole job ran under an hour once the truck was set. The Ranger went straight to the processor, where the hull got cut down for scrap and whatever fiberglass couldn't be recycled got separated out for disposal. Crews cover all of Queens County: Queens and every neighborhood in between. Most calls here get a same-week pickup, since I keep a route running through the borough year-round. A good chunk of that route is seasonal, pulling Rangers and other trailer boats out of yards before the storage lots fill up each fall, and picking them back up in spring when owners decide the 18-footer just isn't getting used anymore.
