San Ramon, CA: 22 ft Catalina Gone in One Morning

A 22 ft Catalina 22 had been parked in a San Ramon driveway for years with its mast down and lashed to the deck. The swing-keel trailer under it sat flat on two tires, and the whole rig was wedged between a fence and a garage with maybe three feet of clearance on either side. The owner had bought it decades ago, learned to sail once or twice, and then it just stayed there. By the time we got the call, the boat had become part of the landscape. We started by getting the mast fully secured and measuring the angles. The real problem wasn't the boat itself,it was the trailer and those flat tires. We couldn't roll it out without risking the hull. So we brought in a rotator, got the whole assembly lifted, swapped the trailer for a proper haul-out dolly under load, and began working it backward out of the driveway in stages. The crew took most of a morning on the extraction and strapping. Once it was on our truck, we routed the boat to our yard, pulled the swing keel, and sent the fiberglass hull to the processor.
