Florida Ridge, FL: 27 ft Catalina 27 Off the Bottom in One Morning

Seized standing rigging and sails rotted in the bag made the 27 ft Catalina 27 look abandoned long before she sank. She settled stern-first on her mooring one night, bow pointing up, and stayed that way.
The rigging was the problem. Wire and rotted canvas hung in the water and caught every strap we passed. So a diver cut the stays free first, one by one, and the crew bagged the sails so they would not clog anything. Then we set four lift bags along the hull and brought her up in a single slow lift.
It was a sunken boat recovery of most of a morning. The deck was soft, the keel was loose, so the Catalina went by trailer through Vero Beach to our yard for dismantling and recycling. We kept the winches and the mast for salvage. The skiff handled the tow to the ramp.

A sailboat on a mooring takes a plan and a diver, and we usually raise it the same week we hear from the owner. Send photos from the water and a rough depth, and we set the day.
