Sunken Sportfisher Recovery in Temple Terrace

Twin engines were dead on the 28 ft Bertram 28, and the cockpit sole had gone soft underfoot. She hung on a mooring for years while the owner sorted out an estate. Rain filled the cockpit, the scuppers clogged, and the deck eventually sat awash with the bow slightly up.
Weight was the obstacle. Two big engines and a full cockpit of water meant she was far heavier than her length suggested. We staged more lift bags than usual and had the crew bail the cockpit down in stages while the bags took the load. Each step took a while. Rushing a sportfisher that heavy risks a roll.
When she was level, we took her on a slow tow to the haul-out ramp. The sole was rotted through and the engines were seized. No one would put that money into the hull, so salvage was out. She went to our yard for dismantling and recycling by way of Tampa. About five hours of sunken boat recovery on site.
