Coral Springs, FL: 26 ft MacGregor 26 Off the Bottom in One Morning

The marina office had watched the 26 ft MacGregor 26 in the slip ride lower for a month, its cabin mildewed and the rudder gone. One night the bilge gave up and she dropped until the deck was awash, bow slightly up, between two boats that were fine.
That was the complication: two neighbors close enough to touch. Anything that swung wrong would scrape a clean hull. We did not want a crane over a full slip, so we worked from the water. Lift bags went under the hull from a skiff, inflated one at a time, and we fended off both neighbors by hand as she rose.
Most of a morning. A tow took her out to the ramp, and the marina asked for a clear slip by the afternoon. Light boat, tired hull, no rudder to speak of, so she went to our yard for dismantling and recycling. The trailer and the mast went out as salvage. Routine sunken boat removal, with no scratches on anyone else's paint.

Crews cover Broward County: Deerfield Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood, and Pembroke Pines. Crews cover Broward County on a same-week schedule. Marina jobs from Coral Springs run south toward the coast, and we time the trailer for mid-morning, after commuter traffic thins out on the main roads. We call the marina office ahead so the slip is clear when the skiff arrives.
