Raising a 28 ft Carver 28 in Deland, FL

Windows leaked until the interior gave up, and that is how the 28 ft Carver 28 ended up settled by the stern on its mooring with the bow pointing at the sky. An aft cabin cruiser holds a lot of water in that cabin, and every pane had been letting rain in for years.
What complicated it was weight and sludge. The aft cabin was full of water and wet foam, and we could not lift that without breaking something. We drained the cabin down first, in stages, then ran lift bags under the stern to float her level. Slow work, but she never rolled.
Most of a morning. A tow brought her to a ramp near Daytona Beach and onto our trailer. Hull sound, interior destroyed, engines seized, so a repair yard was out and she went to dismantling and recycling. Salvage was the brass and the props. Plain sunken boat recovery.

Crews cover Volusia County: Daytona Beach, Debary, Deltona, and Edgewater. Our Volusia County crew takes Deland calls the same week. The route out to the ramps runs flat and rural, so a loaded trailer travels without hills or tight turns before it meets the highway. Photos of the stern and the water level are enough to schedule the crew.
