Raising a 28 ft Carver 28 in Brandon, FL

A 28 ft Carver 28 aft cabin cruiser sat at a boat ramp for most of a year while the windows leaked until the interior gave up. Carpet, cabinets and headliner turned to sludge. Then one night the hull settled until the gunwales were level with the water.
The wet interior was the problem. Soaked cabinets and carpet weigh more than a person expects, and they would have gone straight through any rushed lift. We pulled the loose debris out by hand from a skiff first, which took the load down. After that we set lift bags at the chines and let the hull rise on its own.
The raise took most of a morning. A ramp is open to the public, so we staged the truck on the apron and kept the line short for the tow. The Carver was gutted and past rebuilding, so it went to our yard past Apollo Beach for dismantling and recycling. Salvage came to the props and the shafts, and the sunken boat removal was done.

Crews cover Hillsborough County: Apollo Beach, Bloomingdale, Cheval, Citrus Park. A hull that blocks a public ramp goes to the front of our board, and we usually have a crew and a flatbed on the apron within the same week. Brandon sits on a straight run to our yard, so the haul out is quick once she is on the truck.
