Clearwater, FL: 18 ft Renken Gone in One Morning

An 18 ft Renken 180 bowrider was sitting in a Clearwater driveway, fiberglass hull soft enough that the cabin sole plywood crumbled under your boot. The trailer underneath had dry-rotted tires that hadn't held air in years. No title in the drawer. The boat had been there long enough that the owner had stopped thinking about it as a boat and started thinking about it as a permanent fixture, the kind of thing you stop seeing after a while. The real problem wasn't the boat itself. It was the trailer. We couldn't roll it anywhere without risking the frame sinking into the asphalt, and we couldn't tow it without the tires failing halfway down the street. We brought a flatbed, winched the whole rig straight onto the deck, and left the trailer behind. The Renken came out under an hour.
