Covina, CA: 16 ft Lund Gone in One Morning

A 16 ft Lund 1600 Fury sat in a Covina driveway for three years. The aluminum hull was sound, but the transom had rotted through to bare plywood, making the boat unsaleable and unsafe to tow any distance. The owner had bought it thinking he'd restore it. He didn't. By the time he called, the boat had settled into the concrete, and the trailer tires had gone soft. The crew showed up early on a Wednesday. The driveway was tight, and backing a wrecker in meant blocking part of the street. We positioned the boat, rigged it carefully to avoid putting weight on the compromised transom, and lifted it clean off the trailer frame. The load took under an hour to secure and stage. We drove it out to the Los Angeles County recycler who handles aluminum hulls, where the whole rig was broken down and the metal recovered.
