Sunken Boat Removal in Deltaville, Virginia

Wind pushed water three feet up the yard near Deltaville and left a Trojan cruiser tilted against a fence line, half in the water and half out. It had been the owner's retirement project, bought used with plans to refinish the whole interior, but the work never got past the deck before a storm caught it still tied to a temporary mooring instead of hauled out for the season. A letter from the insurer calling it a total loss settled the question of fixing it. By the time anyone could safely get to it, the hull had taken on enough water that the interior wood was already swelling and delaminating. What slowed the pull was the fence itself, still standing on one side of the hull, so we had to winch at an angle to clear the posts without dragging the boat straight through them. Took extra rigging but no damage to the fence. The hull came apart on removal, so we handled it in sections, recycling metal fittings and disposing of the waterlogged wood separately.
