Eau Claire, WI: 26 ft MacGregor Gone in One Morning

A 26 ft MacGregor 26 sat in a yard near Chippewa Falls for three seasons. The cabin had gone soft with mildew, the rudder was long gone, and the fiberglass was chalky from sun and neglect. The trailer was still serviceable, but the boat itself had crossed from storage into something nobody wanted to claim. We pulled in on a Tuesday morning. The real work wasn't moving the boat off the trailer,that part went straight. The keel had to come out at our yard before we could move it anywhere else, and the mast was already down, which saved us the rigging. What made the job take most of a morning was the access. The yard had one tight gate, and the approach angle meant we couldn't back the full rig in clean. We came in nose-first with a dolly, got the MacGregor onto the bed, and towed out the same way we came. The hull went to the processor. Fiberglass that old doesn't have much salvage value, but it recycles. Mast and keel came off the truck at our yard, and the rest was handled per the Wisconsin title rules,no paperwork in the drawer, so we filed the abandonment report and moved on.
