Hauling a sailboat out of a Iowa City pickup

A 26 ft MacGregor 26 sailboat showed up in our queue with mildewed cabin walls and a missing rudder, sitting on a serviceable trailer in Johnson County. The owner had moved to Coralville for work three years back and left the boat behind, thinking he'd return to sailing season after season. He never did. By the time he called, the boat had become part of the property in a way that made selling it impossible and keeping it pointless. The trailer was solid, but the boat's weight and the mast still rigged created a tight fit for our hauling approach. We stepped the mast down first, which cut the height and gave us room to maneuver the rig out of the residential setup without clipping power lines or the neighbor's fence. Once the mast was down and secured, we loaded the hull and brought it back to our facility. The keel came out at the yard, and the fiberglass hull went through our processing line.
