Davenport, IA: 27 ft Catalina Gone in One Morning

A 27 ft Catalina 27 had been parked on wooden stands in a Scott County yard for years. The standing rigging was seized solid, the sails were rotted inside their bag, and the trailer underneath had settled into the ground. The owner had moved on, and the boat wasn't moving anywhere without help. We showed up with a hydraulic crane and a flatbed. The real work wasn't the boat itself,it was the stands. They'd sunk into the soil, and the keel was locked in place from years of sitting. We jacked the hull carefully, broke the stands loose, and got everything level enough to winch onto the trailer. Most of the job ran under two hours. Once we had it secured, we hauled it back to our yard in the direction of Bettendorf. At the shop, we pulled the mast down and extracted the keel. The hull went to the processor for responsible recycling. The owner got the paperwork done, and the yard got its space back. Crews cover all of Scott County: Bettendorf, Eldridge, Le Claire, Park View, Buffalo, Princeton. We pick up same week in most cases, and we know the seasonal rhythm around here. Boats come out of winter storage in spring, and we're ready. Come fall, we haul them back in or out depending on what the owner needs. A 27-footer like yours moves in and out of those storage yards regularly, and we've got the route dialed in.
