Jupiter, FL: 27 ft Cal Gone in One Morning

A 27 ft Cal 27 was sitting on stands in a Palm Beach County yard, mast corroded at the step and boom long gone. The owner had stopped sailing it years back, kept meaning to list it, and eventually just stopped thinking about it altogether. By the time we got the call, the fiberglass hull was chalky, the rigging was seized, and the trailer had settled unevenly into the ground. The real problem wasn't the boat itself. It was access. The yard sat tight between two properties, and the only way out ran through a narrow passage toward West Palm Beach. We couldn't back a full-size recovery rig in there without clipping a neighbor's fence. So we went in with a smaller wrecker, secured the sailboat to a dolly, and muscled it forward piece by piece under an hour. Once we had it clear and loaded, we hauled it back to our yard, pulled the keel, dropped the corroded mast, and cut the hull down for recycling. We cover all of Palm Beach County: West Palm Beach, Boca Raton, Boynton Beach, Delray Beach, Wellington, Palm Beach Gardens. Most pickups happen within the same week. Jupiter sits right in the middle of our route, and we handle a lot of seasonal traffic here, boats coming in and out of storage, people moving through for the winter then heading north when the season ends. That means we know the marinas, the residential addresses, and the logistics of getting a 27-footer out of a tight slip or off a trailer without tearing up the yard.
