Hauling a sailboat out of a Missoula pickup

A 27 ft Catalina 27 sailboat sat on wooden stands in a Missoula County yard with seized standing rigging and sails that had rotted inside their bag for years. The owner had inherited it from his father and finally decided to stop maintaining the registration. The boat was light enough to move, but the trailer wasn't going anywhere without serious work. The stands had settled unevenly into the ground, and one wheel rim had seized solid. We pulled the mast down at the yard, then brought a heavy-duty dolly and hand jacks to reset the boat's weight distribution. Once we had the hull stable on the trailer bed, we winched it up and towed it out through Frenchtown toward our yard. Most of the morning's work was getting the stands out from under it and the trailer straight enough to move. Back at the shop, we pulled the keel, cut the hull down, and sent the fiberglass and aluminum to the processor. The rigging and hardware went to salvage. Crews cover all of Missoula County: Orchard Homes, Lolo, East Missoula, Seeley Lake, Frenchtown, Bonner-West Riverside. We handle pickups same week in most cases. A lot of boat owners around here move their rigs in and out of storage seasonally, so we're used to coordinating around lake access and winter weather. Call with your address and we'll tell you the actual date.
