Hauling a sailboat out of a Newark driveway

A 27 ft Cal 27 sailboat had been sitting on stands in a Newark driveway for three seasons. The boom was gone, the mast corroded down at the step where it met the deck, and the fiberglass hull had started to show the kind of wear that comes from sitting still too long. The owner had bought it with plans to restore it. That was years ago. The trailer was on stands, not wheels, which meant we couldn't just hook and pull. We had to bring in a lift to set the boat back onto the frame, check the axles and tires, and get it road-ready before we could move it out of the neighborhood. The driveway was tight, with a garage corner and a fence line that didn't leave much room for angle or error. We worked the rig out in stages, backed it toward Fremont Avenue, and got it loaded under an hour and a half. Once at the yard, we pulled the keel and dropped the mast for proper recycling. The hull went to the processor where it gets broken down for fiber recovery. Crews cover all of Alameda County: Oakland, Fremont, Hayward, Berkeley, San Leandro, Livermore. We handle pickups same week most of the time. A lot of what we see in Newark is seasonal storage overflow,boats coming out of the water for winter or heading into long-term storage after an owner decides they're done.
