Olympia, WA: 27 ft Catalina Gone in One Morning

A 27 ft Catalina 27 sailboat had been sitting on concrete blocks in a residential yard near Lacey for three seasons. The standing rigging was seized solid, and the sails were still in the bag, rotted through. The owner had inherited it from a relative, had no title in the drawer, and couldn't figure out what to do with it. We handled the paperwork per Washington requirements and showed up with a flatbed and a crane. The trailer was on stands, not wheels, which meant we couldn't tow it out. The boat itself weighed close to 5,000 pounds dry, and the yard access was tight. We craned the hull straight onto the flatbed, then came back to the yard to drop the keel and pull the mast down so the rig would fit on the truck bed. Most of a morning for the whole job. We routed the hull to the recycler in Thurston County, where the fiberglass gets processed and the metal hardware gets sorted. Crews cover all of Thurston County: Lacey, Tumwater, Yelm, Tanglewilde, Rochester, Grand Mound. We pick up same week in most cases.
