Hauling a sailboat out of a Potomac driveway

A 26 ft Pearson 26 sat in a Potomac driveway with soft deck core rotting around every stanchion. The fiberglass was chalky, the cabin sole was spongy, and the whole hull had been resting on cinder blocks for so long the neighbors in Germantown had stopped asking about it. The owner called because the boat wasn't getting better, wasn't getting sold, and wasn't leaving on its own. The trailer was on stands, which meant we couldn't just hook and haul. We had to get the hull off the blocks, load it onto our deck, and secure a sailboat that wanted to rock every direction at once. The mast was already down and lashed, so that wasn't the puzzle. The keel was the real weight, we'd deal with that back at the yard. Most of a morning to rig the cradle, load the fiberglass, and get it onto the truck without cracking what was left of the deck. At the processor, we pulled the keel, cut the hull into sections, and routed the fiberglass and metal for recycling. The wood and foam went to the appropriate stream. Nothing went to a landfill.
