Riverview, FL: 27 ft Ericson Gone in One Morning

A 27 ft Ericson 27 sailboat came to us in Riverview with portlights so crazed they were opaque and an interior that had been gutted by a previous owner who never finished the job. The boat sat on stands in a residential yard, mast already down, but the trailer frame had settled unevenly and the keel still needed to come out before we could move it. The real obstacle was getting the hull out through a narrow side gate without clipping the fence or the neighbor's property line, and the weight distribution meant we couldn't just winch it straight. We brought a crane and a wider trailer to the site. The crew set up blocks under the keel, lifted the hull just enough to break it free from the stands, and rotated it ninety degrees on the trailer so we could thread it through the gate with room to spare. The whole operation ran most of a morning. Once we had it at our yard, we pulled the keel, cut the hull down to recyclable pieces, and routed the fiberglass and hardware to the appropriate processors.
