Hauling a jon boat out of a Aurora salvage job

A 14 ft Jon boat 1436 had been sitting in a DuPage County yard for three seasons, hull dented and half full of leaves and yard waste. No trailer underneath it, just sitting on blocks that had started to sink into the soil. The owner called us after his neighbor mentioned it was becoming a problem, and we knew right away this wasn't going to be a simple hook-and-haul. Aluminum jon boats are tough, but this one was wedged into soft ground and the weight of all that debris made it even heavier. We brought a small crane and a flatbed, dug out the ground around the blocks, and loaded the hull onto the bed under an hour. The aluminum was sound enough that we took it to the metal recycler in Aurora rather than the landfill, so at least the material got a second life.
