New Haven, CT: 27 ft Catalina Gone in One Morning

A 27 ft Catalina 27 showed up in New Haven on a trailer that hadn't moved in years. The standing rigging was seized solid, the sails rotted inside their bags, and the whole rig was going nowhere without a serious intervention. The owner had kept it on blocks in a side yard, thinking he'd restore it someday. That day never came. We got the call after he'd finally accepted it. The trailer was rusted onto its stands, and the boat sat heavy on blocks that had settled unevenly. Getting it loaded meant jacking the hull carefully, getting the trailer wheels free, and then figuring out how to angle a heavy sailboat onto our transport rig in a tight residential setup near Wallingford Center. Most of a morning went into the prep work. Once we had it secured and stable, the haul out was straightforward. At our yard we pulled the keel, dropped the mast, and cut the hull down for processing. The fiberglass went to the recycler, the metal fittings got sorted, and the trailer stayed behind for local disposal. The owner got a document saying it was gone.
