North Highlands, CA: 25 ft O'Day Gone in One Morning

A 25 ft O'Day 25 sailboat had been sitting on wooden stands in a North Highlands driveway for three years. The keel bolts were weeping rust down the hull, and the fiberglass around the waterline showed the kind of decay that comes from sun and neglect. The owner had inherited it from a relative, kept meaning to list it, and eventually just stopped walking past it on the way to the garage. Getting it out meant working around the trailer stands, which had sunk into the driveway and were holding dead weight. We brought a hydraulic lift and a flatbed, set the boat level, then jacked the stands out from underneath. The mast was already down, which saved us headroom getting out of the neighborhood. Most of the morning went to securing the hull and routing the keel for removal at our yard. Once the boat was loaded and strapped, we headed toward the processor in Sacramento County with no title in the drawer, handled per California documentation rules. The O'Day came apart at the yard. We pulled the keel, cut the hull into recyclable sections, and processed the fiberglass. The driveway was empty by end of week. North Highlands sits right in the middle of our regular route, so most pickups happen same week.
