Rockford, IL: 22 ft Catalina Gone in One Morning

A 22 ft Catalina 22 sat in a residential yard outside Rockford for years, mast down and lashed to the deck, parked on a swing-keel trailer with two flat tires. The owner had moved on to other things and stopped thinking about the boat entirely until a neighbor's comment made it impossible to ignore. By then the fiberglass hull had chalked, the rigging was seized, and the whole rig looked like it belonged in a salvage lot. Getting it out meant replacing the trailer tires first so we could actually move the frame. The swing-keel trailer sat low and heavy, and the narrow driveway didn't leave much room for a truck to angle in. We backed the wrecker past the neighbor's property line near Byron and muscled the frame straight out to the main road. The whole job ran most of a morning. Once we had it at the yard, we pulled the swing keel, cut the mast loose from the deck, and prepped the hull for processing. The fiberglass went to the recycler, the keel to scrap, and the trailer came apart for its own route. Nothing sat around. Nothing left behind.
