Hauling a bowrider out of a Springfield storage lot

An 18 ft Sea Ray 180 bowrider sat in a Springfield yard with a sun-bleached cover shredded at the seams and tires on the trailer that had gone soft years ago. The owner had parked it there thinking he'd use it one more season, and that was a decade back. Nobody uses a boat that's been sitting that long, and by the time he called, the fiberglass needed work the engine wasn't worth doing, and the whole rig had become part of the landscape he didn't want to look at anymore. The trailer tires were the real problem. They wouldn't roll, which meant we couldn't simply tow it out. We pulled the boat off the trailer, loaded the hull onto our heavy-duty flatbed, and broke down the frame right there in the yard. The whole operation took most of a morning. No title in the drawer, handled per the Illinois rules. Once we had the hull secured, we routed it to the processor in Sangamon County where the fiberglass gets separated from the resin and recycled. That's how it ends for a boat like this one. Not with drama or surprises, just a crew that knows what to do with something that's been forgotten, and a yard that's finally clear.
