A 23 ft Chris-Craft Cavalier cabin cruiser sat in a Harrisonburg barn for so long that decades of dust had settled into every corner, and the keel strip had cracked clean through from years of settling. The owner called because he'd inherited the property and needed the boat gone before he could list it. No trailer underneath it, which meant we couldn't just hitch and roll. The barn sat tight against the boat's starboard side, and the port side faced a fence line that ran about thirty feet before it opened into a field. We backed a rotator truck through that field access, rigged the hull with straps rated for the weight, and lifted it clean off the support blocks. The fiberglass was brittle enough that we worked slow, but under an hour we had it swung clear of the barn and settled on the truck bed. The damaged keel strip meant this hull wasn't salvageable for resale, so we routed it straight to the recycler in Virginia for breakdown and processing.
