The Anacostia rises fast when a storm sits over the district long enough. This Silverton had been moored along the river for years, an old motor problem keeping it mostly stationary while the owner kept meaning to get it fixed and never did. When a heavy storm pushed the river well above normal, the boat took on water through a hull fitting that had been leaking slowly for months and settled low against its mooring overnight. By the time anyone checked on it, only the flybridge was still clearly above the surface. Getting to it meant working from a small workboat since the riverbank nearby was too soft to support a trailer, so we rigged straps underwater and floated the hull to a boat ramp before loading it conventionally. Once it was out and drained, the interior was a total loss. It went to the recycler as scrap, and the mooring's open for whatever comes next.
