Size and type

A 14-foot aluminum fishing boat is one job. A 30-foot cabin cruiser is a different one. Length, beam, and weight decide the crew and the equipment.

Where it sits

Driveway on a trailer is the cheapest boat removal there is. On blocks in the backyard takes more work. In a slip, it needs a haul-out. Sunken, it needs recovery.

Condition

Engine already out is cheaper. Fuel still aboard, a hull full of rainwater, a trailer that will not roll: each adds handling.

Distance

Miles to the processing yard are part of the quote. Boat hauling cost scales with them.

Alabama does not title every boat. A title is required only if the boat was built after December 31, 2023, if Alabama became its state of principal use after January 1, 2024, or if it is under 18 feet with a motor of 75 horsepower or more. Boats completed before the end of 2023 are not titled; everything else runs on registration.

To hand a boat to us we need the title signed by the owner of record, or a bill of sale where no title applies. A title transfer costs $20 plus $5 to the agent. With no title and no owner to sign, Alabama allows a surety bond path: Form MVT 10-1A through the Surety Bond Portal, then Form MVT 10-1, with a title issued within 90 days.

Alabama does run a removal program. ALEA Abandoned Vessels, under Act 2018-179, draws on the Abandoned and Derelict Vessel Fund for seizure, removal, storage, appraisal, and disposal.

If the boat is not yours. ALEA's fund pays for seizure, removal, storage, appraisal, and disposal. State law also gives a landowner standing: Code of Ala. Section 35-13-1 lets anyone take up a boat adrift, and Act 2018-179 permits removal by a landowner under conditions the statute does not spell out. If that route does not fit, or you just want the boat gone, we can take it without a title.
