Colorado Boat Removal and Disposal — flatbed truck hauling a junk boat away

Colorado Boat Removal and Disposal

Twenty years of hauling junk boats out of driveways, marinas, and backyards. Firm quote before the truck rolls.

Licensed & Insured Colorado Statewide Fast Response

Most junk boats I pick up in Colorado never died on the water. They died in the driveway. Bought for reservoir weekends, run hard for two summers, then parked by the garage while the cover shredded and the trailer tires went flat. Or the boat came with the house. Or with an estate, and nobody in the family wants to be the one to deal with it. Selling a boat that does not run is a part-time job that pays badly.

That is the call my crew takes. Boat removal start to finish: pickup, transport, disposal. On a trailer, on blocks, in a storage lot, does not matter. No paperwork on it? We deal with that too. Details further down.

How much does boat removal cost?

Starting from
$250

Junk boat on a trailer that rolls, with room for the truck to reach it. From there, four things move the number.

I will tell you which ones apply to yours before we schedule anything.

Size and type

A 14-foot aluminum fishing boat is one job. A 30-foot cabin cruiser is a different one. Length, beam, and weight decide the crew and the equipment.

Where it sits

Driveway on a trailer is the cheapest boat removal there is. On blocks in the backyard takes more work. In a slip, it needs a haul-out. Sunken, it needs recovery.

Condition

Engine already out is cheaper. Fuel still aboard, a hull full of rainwater, a trailer that will not roll: each adds handling.

Distance

Miles to the processing yard are part of the quote. Boat hauling cost scales with them.

Not sure which factors apply to your boat?

Can it be free?

People ask about free junk boat removal. Sometimes the boat has enough going for it, a running outboard, decent aluminum, and we take it for nothing. Sometimes it does not, and there is a fee. We will tell you which one you have.

Our guarantee

The number is firm before the truck rolls.

Twenty years in, nobody has heard a different price at the curb.

What pricing looks like in Colorado

In Colorado, nearly every boat I pull comes off a driveway, a barn, or a storage lot, since the state has no coastline to speak of. Water pulls are rare enough that they barely register. The pickup point and the yard tend to sit far apart, and that distance is one of the bigger swings in what a job costs here. Spring de-winterizing brings one rush, and fall storage deadlines bring another right before the cold sets in. I size up the boat and the route before I say a number out loud. That number is what gets paid, nothing added once the truck arrives.

Junk boat pickup, salvage, and old boat removal

One boat, a whole yard, or an emergency. Old boat removal from a driveway or an estate. Junk boat pickup for the one that never sold. Marinas and boat yards call us to clear a season of abandoned slips in one visit. Insurance adjusters call after storms. My crew has floated sunken boats, hauled sailboats out of backyards, and moved a 40-footer through a neighborhood that was not built for it. One call covers removal, transport, and disposal. If it floats, floated, or was supposed to float, we haul it.

Getting rid of a boat legally in Colorado

State legal briefColorado
Reviewed August 25, 2026

Colorado does not title boats. Registration runs through Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW), which accepts another state's title as proof of ownership but never issues one itself. A 2025 Sunset Review confirmed CPW's authority under Title 33, Article 13, C.R.S. does not include title issuance.

To hand a boat to us, any of the following works: a bill of sale (names, HIN, make, model, year, date, price), a previous state registration in the applicant's name, an MCO or MSO, an out-of-state ownership document, a court document establishing ownership, or an affidavit under Section 15-12-1201. A bill of sale also serves as temporary registration for 30 days. With no paperwork at all, a physical inspection by a CPW agent is the fallback.

We could not find a published statewide removal program, confirmed by the same Sunset Review, which lays out CPW's full authority with no removal fund in it. The state requires an owner to notify CPW and surrender registration within 15 days if a boat is abandoned.

If the boat is not yours. Colorado has no statute letting a property owner take ownership of a boat someone left behind, a gap confirmed by that Sunset Review. What is left is general civil process: track the owner down, pursue the cost yourself, and hope they are solvent and reachable. We can take a Colorado boat off your property without a title.

Skip the paperwork. We take Colorado boats with or without titles. One call, one price.

Boat removal in Colorado: what owners ask

How do I get rid of an old boat in Colorado?

In Colorado you can sell it, donate it, drop it at a salvage yard, or call a removal service to haul it off. Selling a barn or storage-lot boat takes more work than expected. We load the unwanted boat and take it from there.

How much does boat disposal cost in Colorado?

Boat disposal cost in Colorado depends on size, condition, where the boat sits, and the distance to the yard, which tends to run long inland. The pricing section above breaks down how those factors stack up.

Where can I dispose of a boat in Colorado?

You can drive it to a salvage yard or recycler if it rolls, or let a removal service take the boat dump end to end. Colorado landfills generally won't take a hull. A removal service is the option that doesn't leave you stuck hauling it yourself.

Can I get free junk boat removal in Colorado?

Free junk boat removal happens in Colorado when the boat still has value, a running outboard or solid aluminum for example. Otherwise abandoned boat removal comes with a fee, and we tell you which side of that line you're on before we schedule anything.

Are there boat salvage yards near me in Colorado?

Yes, Colorado has boat junkyards and salvage yards, but they expect the boat delivered on a trailer. Plenty of barn and storage-lot boats out here haven't moved in years and can't make that trip. That's where removal fills the gap.

How do I dispose of a fiberglass boat in Colorado?

Colorado landfills generally turn away fiberglass hulls. It gets cut into sections and hauled to facilities that process it, which is exactly the job boat removers do. Don't plan on tackling that breakdown yourself.

Can you remove a boat without a title in Colorado?

Colorado doesn't title boats at all, so there's no paperwork gap holding up a pickup. We take the boat either way. The legal section above explains how Colorado actually tracks boat ownership instead.
